Super League Carolina put the team together as the reserve side for its USL Super League project, Carolina Ascent FC. The announcement came on December 13, 2023, with tryouts held early the following month, and the team took the place of the Charlotte Independence women's side in the USL W League for the 2024 season.
Cornelius, just north of Charlotte, hosts the matches at Hough High School Soccer Field.
That purpose shows in the names it has produced.
What it has instead is a stated purpose, summed up in the slogan "Join the Climb", and a short list of players who have already made the step up.
