North Carolina Fusion Women

Anna Heilferty came through the NC Fusion academy before Washington Spirit picked her in the 2021 NWSL draft; she plays for Tampa Bay Sun FC now. Audrey Harding followed the same route out of the same draft class, added a spell in Sweden with KIF Örebro DFF, and is now at Carolina Ascent FC. Sophie Wyshner, drawn from the same pipeline, was called into the United States' under-18 squad in 2026. None of the three wore the shirt of the senior women's side itself — that team only began playing in the USL W League in 2022. The wider NC Fusion project dates from 2018.

Home matches are played at Macpherson Stadium, part of the Truist Soccer Complex at Bryan Park in Browns Summit, on the edge of Greensboro. The ground holds 3,000. The crest is blue and red, though the side has turned out in grey at home and black away.

The senior team's results have not matched what the academy produces. The debut season, in 2022, finished sixth of seven. The team won once in twelve league matches that year. By 2023 the side had climbed to fourth of seven. 2024 held that placing — fourth, now of eight. Seven wins from twelve matches made it the club's best league return to date. 2025 reversed it: ten matches, ten defeats, last of eight teams. Four seasons into the competition, the side has yet to reach the play-offs.
