Charlotte Eagles II

Matthews sits just southeast of Charlotte, one of the suburban towns that grew up alongside the city's banking district, and it is there, at the Sportsplex at Matthews, that Charlotte Eagles II play their home matches rather than in Charlotte proper.

The club joined the USL W League in 2024 as an expansion side, entered as the reserve team of the Charlotte Eagles women's programme. The Charlotte Eagles name itself goes back to 2000, but that founding belongs to the men's side — a separate team with its own history, and no further date has surfaced for the "II" side beyond its 2024 entry into the league.

It plays in orange, sky blue and white, the same colours worn across the wider Charlotte Eagles women's set-up, whose established nickname, Lady Eagles, belongs to that first team rather than to the reserve side specifically. The Sportsplex was expanded in 2018, when modular bleachers were added alongside the fixed stand — the kind of addition that tends to leave different sources quoting different capacities for the same ground.

Charlotte Eagles II have no honours to their name. Their first season, in 2025, ended with third place in the South Atlantic Division of the USL W League — the campaign stopped there, without a play-off place.
