Jan Breydel Stadium holds 29,062 people, a bowl built in 1975 as Olympiastadion and renamed in 1998 for a Flemish rebel who led an uprising against French rule in the thirteenth century.

The club traces back to Brugsche FC, formed on 13 November 1891, then reshaped by a merger with FC Brugeois in 1897 and renamed again in 1972 into the Dutch-language Club Brugge Koninklijke Voetbalvereniging still used today. 20 league titles, the most recent sealed in May 2026 after a draw at Mechelen coincided with Union Saint-Gilloise dropping points at Gent, alongside 12 Belgian Cups and a record 18 Belgian Super Cups.

Ernst Happel shaped the club's peak years, winning three straight championships between 1976 and 1978 and taking Brugge to the 1978 European Cup final. Daniel Amokachi's name sits in the club's European record books as the scorer of Brugge's first goal in the Champions League proper, in the 1992/93 campaign. Franky Van der Elst played more matches for the club than anyone else across a career spanning 1984 to 1999, and the current captain, Hans Vanacken, has been named the greatest player in the club's history by former teammates and staff.

Brugge's fiercest rivalry runs against Anderlecht, contested as De Klassieker and grouped with Standard Liège as Belgium's traditional Big Three, while a shorter trip across the city produces the Bruges derby against Cercle Brugge. Ownership sits mostly with Grizzly Sports NV, controlled by club president Bart Verhaeghe, with the American fund Orkila Capital holding roughly a quarter of the shares since 2021.

Brugge now carries the freshly retained league title into a season where the aim is the same as ever domestically: hold off Anderlecht and Union Saint-Gilloise for a twenty-first.
