CRB

The name gives it away before any history book does: Regatas, the word that sits inside Flamengo's full title and Vasco da Gama's too, points to a rowing club on the Alagoas coast rather than a football side. CRB grew out of that boating tradition in Maceió, taking shape in 1912 and only later turning to the game that now defines it.

Locals call it Galo da Pajuçara, the rooster on the crest borrowed from the beach neighbourhood of Pajuçara. Red, black and white make up the kit, colours that CSA supporters across the same city know just as well; the two clubs have shared Maceió's football conversation for as long as either can remember.

CRB plays its home matches at Estádio Rei Pelé, listed in official records under the longer name Estádio Governador Lamenha Filho. Marcos Assunção came through the club's academy before a career that carried him to Real Betis, Zaragoza, Palmeiras, São Paulo, Corinthians and Vasco da Gama, and into Brazil's 2006 World Cup squad.

A Série C title in 2017 remains the clearest entry on the honours list. Since then, CRB has moved between Série B, the Copa do Brasil and the Copa do Nordeste without adding to it. A first season in Série A has still not arrived.
