Ekhaya

Two clubs in Malawian football answer to the same family. Mighty Wanderers belong to Thomson Mpinganjira; Ekhaya answer to his son, William. When the fixture lands, the country calls it the Mpinganjira Derby.

The younger club came out of a farm. Ekhaya Farms, a social enterprise for farm workers in the Shire Valley, sits behind the crest, and the football side followed in 2022 — nicknamed the Cow Boys, playing in white, black and gold. Two years later they won the SRFA Premier Division in the Southern Region and went up to the TNM Super League.

The first season in the top flight, 2025, ended seventh. That was enough to put them in the Airtel Top 8 Cup, and the 2026 run there is what a young club has to show for itself. In the quarter-finals they knocked out the holders, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets: 2-2 across the tie, then 7-6 on penalties. Karonga United went 2-1 in the semi-final.

Balaka is home, and Balaka Stadium takes some of the home fixtures, but the bigger nights are played 40 miles down the road at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, a ground built for around 40,000.

Enos Chatama has the team. Among the players he inherited or brought in is Joshua Waka, the goalkeeper signed from Blue Eagles in 2025 for MK10 million.

The final of that 2026 cup brought Wanderers, which is to say it brought the father's club against the son's. Ekhaya have not won a senior title.
