Guaraní MG

Winning the Campeonato Mineiro Segunda Divisão in 2024 put Guaraní MG back into the Módulo II, the second tier of Minas Gerais football. It was the club's second title in the third tier. The first came in 1994, when Brandãozinho captained the side. He returned 14 years later as coach and took Guaraní to fifth place in the 2008 Mineiro.

The Módulo II itself has been won three times, in 2002, 2010 and 2018. The club's high points came earlier and further up the pyramid. In 1961 Guaraní reached the final of the Campeonato Mineiro and finished as runners-up to Cruzeiro. In 1981 the club came fourth in the Taça de Bronze, the competition that is now the Campeonato Brasileiro Série C. That remains its best national result.

Guaraní were founded on 20 September 1930 by José de Oliveira and friends, under the name Guarani Sport Club, and did not turn fully professional until 1976. The following season a Divinópolis club had its best year in the state's top flight: Fernando Roberto finished as top scorer of the 1979 Campeonato Mineiro.

The floodlights at the Estádio Waldemar Teixeira de Faria were switched on for the first time in 1954, for a friendly against Botafogo of Rio de Janeiro. Garrincha played for the visitors. Divinópolis is also home to Ferroviário Esporte Clube, and the local derby against them has no name of its own.

The ground is known as the Farião and holds 4,181. The supporters who fill it, the Bugrinos, wear red and white, and the club's nickname, Bugre, is theirs too.
