Knockbreda

A parish congregation in east Belfast put out a football side drawn from its own Sunday services, with no thought yet of league tables or promotion. Knockbreda Parish, as the club was then known, took shape in 1947, and spent its first forty-two years entirely within the Irish Churches' League before moving up into the Northern Amateur Football League in 1989.

The club settled at its present ground on Upper Braniel Road in 1996, took Intermediate status the following year, and by 2009 had been admitted into the IFA Championship system — the same season it lifted the Irish Intermediate Cup. Breda Park holds around 1,000, some 200 of them seated, the rest standing pitchside. Four years later Knockbreda won the Championship's second tier outright. The side got over the line in the 2022-23 play-offs to stay up, only to go down to the Premier Intermediate League in 2024. The "Parish" was dropped from the name in 2019.

Yellow and black at home, green with sky-blue socks away — the shirts carry the nickname Breda rather than the club's full title.

Few names are spoken with more weight around Breda Park than Michael Halliday, a recognised figure in Northern Irish football who wore the club's colours from 2015 to 2018.
