Premier Intermediate League (Northern Ireland) 2025/26

The NIFL Premier Intermediate League occupies the third tier of the Northern Irish football pyramid. It sits below the NIFL Championship and above regional fourth-tier competitions such as the Ballymena & Provincial League and the Mid-Ulster Football League. The competition currently features a single division of teams, though it faces discontinuation following the 2025–26 campaign. A restructuring plan will expand the Championship to 16 sides and introduce a new National Conference League structure for tiers three through five.

The league traces its lineage to the Irish League B Division, established in 1951. Various name changes have occurred over the decades, including the Irish League Second Division and IFA Championship 2, before adopting its current title in 2016. The season follows a double round-robin format, resulting in 26 matches per side.

Success in the competition is measured by promotion to the second tier. The champion secures automatic promotion, provided they satisfy senior status facility and licensing criteria. The runner-up enters a playoff against the eleventh-placed team in the NIFL Championship. Conversely, the bottom club is relegated to one of the regional leagues based on geography.

Historical success at this level has been shared among several clubs. Limavady United and Dundela hold the record for the most titles since the competition's modern iterations began in 1999, each winning three championships. Harland & Wolff Welders, Coagh United, and Warrenpoint Town have claimed two titles each. Warrenpoint Town emerged as the most recent champions in 2024–25.

A defining characteristic of the league is its intermediate status. This classification requires less stringent facility standards than the senior status needed for the Championship. While the Irish Cup offers European qualification opportunities, this league focuses strictly on progression within the domestic pyramid.
