Nautico U20

Náutico's under-20 side goes into the Campeonato Pernambucano Sub-20 as the team every rival still has to catch, and in 2025 it added another state title to a collection no youth side in Pernambuco comes close to matching. The senior club plays out of Estádio dos Aflitos, but the U20s are based across the water at Estádio Ademir Cunha in Paulista, a smaller ground that suits an age group still building a following, though the bigger fixtures move back to Aflitos.

The number itself explains why the category matters here: 26 state Sub-20 titles, a run stretching back to 1923 and continuing through 2021 and 2025, longer and deeper than almost anything the first team has managed in the same competition at senior level. The Copa do Brasil Sub-20 has not gone the same way — the trophy has eluded them there — but at home, in Pernambuco, the academy has rarely gone more than a few years without adding to the tally.

That record exists because Náutico has treated the pathway as more than a feeder system. Douglas Santos came through it before going on to the Brazil national team and Zenit, and Jorge Henrique followed a similar route to Corinthians. Players like Auremir, Marcos Vinícius and Eduardo Erê took the same path in smaller steps, filling out a senior squad that leans on Timbu-raised players even in seasons when the first team has swung between Série A and lower divisions.

Among those who came up through the academy and stayed identified with the shirt for years, Douglas Santos remains the name supporters point to first — proof, for a club that has spent this decade climbing back from relegation, that the U20 side is not just a nursery but a source of players it can actually build a first team around.
