Petrolina U20

The under-20 side spent 2025 chasing something the club had never had at that level: a place in the state final. They fell short, finishing third in the Campeonato Pernambucano Sub-20.

Petrolina Social Futebol Clube was set up under a different name in 1998 and took its current one a decade later.

The senior team has stayed a division below the state's elite silverware, its best recent finish a third place in the 2023 Série A1, but the shirt has carried recognisable names through it — Vagner Love wore it in 2016, Jorginho a year later. The youth setup, by contrast, has had to build its name through development rather than signings, sending players north to Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior in 2020 and 2022 to test itself against the country's traditional academies.

Matches against Salgueiro Atlético Clube go by their own name here, the Clássico dos Matutos, a countryside derby that says as much about where both clubs come from as who they play for. Petrolina itself plays out its home games at the Estádio Municipal Paulo de Souza Coelho, a ground of a few thousand seats in a city on the banks of the São Francisco, in the sertão its own nickname, Fera Sertaneja, refuses to let anyone forget.
