1º De Maio U20

The under-20 side went quiet for years before Hélio Miranda took charge of its return to the Campeonato Pernambucano U20 in 2026.

1º de Maio traces itself to an amateur side from 1960, though the club as it stands was refounded on 23 February 1985 by Ronaldo Luiz de Souza. The Campeonato Pernambucano Série A2 titles of 2001, 2010 and 2018 that outsiders sometimes attach to the city belong instead to Petrolina Social, the other club sharing the same streets.

That gap between neighbours is what gives the fixture between them its edge.

Blue and white shirts have earned the club its nickname, Azulino, worn at the Estádio Paulo de Souza Coelho, a 5,000-seat ground the supporters still call simply Paulo Coelho.

For now the name to know is Hélio Miranda's, the coach entrusted with switching the under-20 lights back on.
