League Two is where Newport County have spent every season since promotion in 2013. Rodney Parade, shared with the city's rugby side, holds around 8,700 for football, though the exact figure shifts with the layout the pitch is set up for that week.

The club's oldest nickname belongs to the town rather than the team. Newport built its name on steel, and The Ironsides came from that. After the club went under in 1989 it spent years without a home ground of its own, moving between borrowed stadiums, and the supporters who followed it around gave it the name it still carries. The Exiles .

What came back in 1989 was not the club that had been wound up. It restarted at the bottom, and its first honour after reforming was the Hellenic League title in 1989–90.

The high point sits further back. The Welsh Cup win of 1980 sent Newport into the European Cup Winners' Cup, and they reached the quarter-finals of the 1980–81 edition.

That remains their best in the competition, matched only by the 1948–49 side.

The club, founded in 1912, plays in amber and black.
