Pyeongtaek sits in the south of Gyeonggi Province. That February the town got a club with a recognisable name attached: Yoon Sang-cheol, the K League striker who was the first in the league to score 100 goals and play 300 matches, founded Pyeongtaek Citizen FC and took on the roles of representative director and head coach at once.

The first season was played in the K3 League Basic, then the fifth tier. Pyeongtaek finished third in the regular season, which was not enough for promotion by itself, so the play-offs decided it. They beat Buyeo FC 3-0 in the semi-final and drew 2-2 with FC Uijeongbu in the final, which was enough to send them up to the K3 League Advanced. The Brazilian striker Hovberto finished that year as the top scorer of the K3 League Basic.

In 2021 the club took Ham Hwi-jin on loan from Incheon United and signed the former K League player Kim Jae-seok. Jang Gyeol-hee, a product of the FC Barcelona youth academy, La Masia, spent time with the squad on trial that year before moving on to other lower-league sides. Kim Jong-seok, a midfielder, left in 2022 for Gimpo FC in K League 2.

The home games are at Sosabel Sports Town, which holds 12,738. The light blue home shirt is the club's identifying colour, and the supporters keep a friendship with Bucheon FC 1995. Siheung Citizen FC and Namyangju FC are the nearest rivals in the province, though no fixture between them has acquired a name.

Pyeongtaek reached the second round in 2021, 2023 and 2024, and have not gone further. Neither the K3 League Advanced nor the K4 League has been won.
