Max Burgess learned the game on the grass at 468 West Botany Street before Sydney FC came calling, and later Wellington Phoenix. He is the name Rockdale Ilinden supporters reach for when asked what the club produces.

The club itself came out of the Macedonian community that settled in southern Sydney, formed in 1969 to give those families a team. The name has stayed with it since, and so have the red and black.

For a long time the trophy record read strangely. Second-tier championships arrived in 2002 and 2006, the Maso Cup came back to Rockdale eight times from 2011 onwards, but the premiership drought held until 2020. It ended a run that had outlasted most of the people who remembered the start of it. Four years later, in 2024, they took the NPL NSW premiership again.

Home is Bicentennial Park South, also known as the Rockdale Ilinden Sports Centre.
