«Wojskowi»
Ryszard Stasik coached Śląsk for 18 seasons. The nickname Wojskowi, "the Military Men", still carries that origin.
The titles came in bunches. Four in a row from 1991 to 1994, then five straight from 1998 to 2002, 18 championships in all.
The run ended badly. In 2008 financial trouble forced the club out of the top league, and it had to be rebuilt from below. In 2024 Śląsk added the Polish Cup and the Superpuchar , beating King Szczecin 76:75 in the final of the latter.
The everyday home is Hala Orbita, which holds 3,000. When a big crowd is expected, whether for a European tie or a league game that will sell out, the team moves to the Centennial Hall (Hala Stulecia), which takes about 10,000 for basketball.
Europe is where the record is thinnest.
