Trefl Sopot

Sopot's basketball club exists because a stronger one left town. When Prokom Trefl, the team that had ruled Polish basketball for years, moved its operations to Gdynia, Sopot was left without top-flight basketball and a group there set up a new club in 2009 to carry the old colours forward. Trefl Sopot took the yellow and black, the Trefle nickname, starting again in a league its predecessor had dominated.

What it inherited was a weight of history it could not immediately match. The Trefl era spent years chasing that standard, collecting Polish Cups in 2012, 2013 and 2023 and a pair of Supercups, but the league title stayed out of reach.

That changed in the 2023/24 season. Sopot went down 1–3 to King Szczecin in the final and won three straight to take the series 4–3, with Jakub Schenk named finals MVP.

Home games are shared with the Tricity's basketball crowd at the Ergo Arena, where matches against Arka Gdynia are still billed as the Tricity Derby. Under coach Krzysztof Roszyk, with players including Geoffrey Groselle and Paul Scruggs, Trefl now plays in an arena built for 15,000.
