Saud Shakeel's dismissal in the 2025 President's Trophy final, given out "timed out" while playing for the State Bank of Pakistan, was a notable moment. The team he was representing that day is one of Pakistan's banking eleven, carrying corporate colours of green and a home ground, the State Bank of Pakistan Sports Complex in North Nazimabad, Karachi, that holds around 5,000 people.

The side made its first-class debut in the 1983–84 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. That model survived until 2019, when the Pakistan Cricket Board scrapped departmental cricket in favour of a fully regional structure, and SBP's team stopped playing. It came back in 2023, after the board reversed course and reinstated departmental, district and zonal cricket.

Across those years SBP never reached the top of the domestic game. Its best finish in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Division One was fourth, in 2011–12 — the same season a young Shan Masood, now Pakistan's Test captain, turned out for the club. The nearest they came to a major title was in the second tier, winning the Division Two Silver League in 2010–11 with a first-innings lead over Khan Research Laboratories after the final was drawn, and losing the same stage four years later to Habib Bank Limited. In the lower Patron's Trophy Grade II, they beat Higher Education Commission by 499 runs to win the 2018–19 title, having been runners-up to Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited the year before. Fawad Alam built much of his 15,000 first-class runs wearing the bank's colours, and Salman Ali Agha, once Pakistan's T20I captain, also came up through the same dressing room before the departmental system was shut down.
