Tofas Bursa

Days after completing the domestic double in June 2000, Tofaş shut down its basketball section. The club had just won the Turkish Basketball Super League for the second year running. Protests followed across Bursa. The team did not return until 2003, and then from the bottom, in the Second League.

Relegation hit again in 2015, forced by financial strain and a thin roster, before CEO Cengiz Eroldu and technical coordinator Tolga Öngören put together a squad that won the Second League title in 2016 and went straight back up. The club moved into a new arena that same year and, two seasons later, reached the Super League final again, finishing runners-up to Fenerbahçe.

The years before the closure carry most of the club's silverware: three Turkish Cups, a Super Cup, and a run to the final of the FIBA Korać Cup in 1997, lost to Aris Thessaloniki. Cüneyt Erden came up through the club's own academy, starting his career there in 1995 and picking up titles from the same golden era.

Home games are played at the Tofaş Nilüfer Spor Salonu, known locally also as the Mustafa V. Koç Spor Salonu, holding 7,500. Matches against Bursaspor draw the city's attention as the Bursa Derby, a rivalry that once also ran through the now-defunct Oyak Renault. Founded in 1974 by Yalçın İpbüken under the umbrella of the Tofaş car company, the club still runs the youth schools that shaped Erden's generation.
