VakifBank Spor Kulübü Women

When Güneş Sigorta withdrew its sponsorship in 2011, the team dropped the red and black it had worn since the merger and went back to yellow and black. The name kept changing for a while yet: VakıfBank Güneş Sigorta Türk Telekom from 2009, VakıfBank Türk Telekom from 2011, and from 2012 plain VakıfBank Spor Kulübü. The colours stayed. The press had already settled on Golden Girls (Altın Kızlar).

The club began in Istanbul in 1986 as Güneş Sigorta. In 2000 it merged with the Ankara team VakıfBank, founded two years later than Güneş Sigorta, and the operation moved to Istanbul under the combined name.

The European success came after that. Seven have followed in all, the latest in 2025–26. Four Club World Championships sit alongside them, and 15 Sultanlar Ligi titles, the most recent in 2026.

The VakıfBank Sports Palace in Üsküdar opened in January 2017 with room for 2,900 for volleyball. That season the club won both the Champions League and the Club World Championship, and it took another world title in 2018. Zhu Ting played here in those years, as did Lonneke Slöetjes, who stayed from 2015 to 2019.

The matches that carry most weight at home are against Eczacıbaşı and Fenerbahçe, together called the Istanbul Derby (İstanbul Derbisi).

The player most tied to the recent years is Zehra Güneş, captain since 2017, the year the new arena opened.
