Volleyball at Galatasaray dates back to 1922, when the club added a women's section — one of the first such teams to take shape in Turkey. The rivalry with Fenerbahçe grew alongside it: the two sides have met 140 times since 1955, with Fenerbahçe holding the upper hand at 105 wins to 35.

The championship years came early and came together. Galatasaray took the Turkish title five times in the space of six seasons, from 1961 to 1966.

The team plays as Cimbom, a nickname the club shares across its sports sections, traced back to a player called Sabit Cinol in the 1920s. Serbian international Katarina Lazović, a world champion with her national team, has been among the more recognisable imports to wear the yellow and red in Istanbul.

Matches are held at TVF Burhan Felek Sport Hall.
