The İzmir derby of 2019 against Karşıyaka lasted 6 hours and 30 minutes, because trouble in the crowd kept stopping play. Göztepe's women have played Karşıyaka, their main city rival, for decades, and that evening is the one the fixture is remembered for.

The volleyball section of Göztepe SK, the multi-sport club, dates from 1962. The women's team entered the İzmir local league in its first year. They were winning national silverware within a decade: the Turkish Cup (Kupa Voley) came in 1969 and again in 1970. The club's colours are yellow and red, and supporters call the team Göz-Göz, after the opening syllables of the name.

The most recent honour is the Kadınlar 1. Ligi title of 2024-25, won in the final stage of the competition. It earned promotion to the Sultanlar Ligi for 2025-26. Home matches are played at the İzmir Atatürk Volleyball Hall, also known as the Vestel Venus Arena. It seats 5,500, a capacity some sources put at 6,000.

Since promotion the club has signed foreign players. Kara Bajema of the United States joined for 2025-26, and Anna Astashina of Russia is listed for 2026-27. The best known of them is the French player Amelie Rotar, who reached the final of the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) Cup in 2025-26.
