Lanus eased to a 3-0 victory over Deportivo Riestra in the Clausura stage of the Argentine Professional League on Sunday evening. Allan Steven Wlk Duré opened the scoring inside the first 15 minutes and added a second before half-time, while Felipe Peña Biafore completed the tally late on. The result leaves Riestra rooted to 15th place with 16 points after 16 matches, while Lanus climb to sixth with 24.
Riestra started brighter than most would expect, and here's the thing — they created more chances than the visitors despite losing possession. Their expected goals figure of 1.83 actually outstripped Lanus's 1.67, yet only one shot found the net. To be fair, Riestra's shot accuracy sat at just 26 per cent, meaning six attempts on target yielded a single goal. Lanus converted 55 per cent of their shots on target instead.
The visitors took control after the interval, and by then the momentum had shifted firmly. Wlk Duré struck again in the 69th minute before Peña Biafore added a third three minutes later. Lanus made only 103 attacks compared to Riestra's 136, but their efficiency told the real story — three big chances created against one for the hosts.
Discipline issues crept in for Riestra as the match wore on. Peña Biafore picked up a yellow card just before half-time, followed by Bracamonte and Díaz in the second period. The hosts made three changes at the break, then shuffled their pack further with substitutions at 78, 87 and 88 minutes. Lanus kept their shape tighter, completing 406 passes to Riestra's 297.
Our prediction had backed the home side at 39 per cent confidence, but that simply didn't materialise. Riestra's recent run of draws — five matches without defeat before this — suggested resilience, yet the away side broke through when it mattered. The gap between sixth and 15th in the table now stretches to eight points.
