Manoel came up through Athletico Paranaense's academy and made his name there as a captain, helping the club to the Campeonato Paranaense title and a third-place finish in the Brasileirão before a move to Cruzeiro added the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, two editions of the Copa do Brasil and a Campeonato Mineiro to his collection. A loan spell took him to Corinthians, where he won the Campeonato Paulista and made over fifty appearances, and briefly to Trabzonspor in Turkey.
The most eventful stretch of his career came at Fluminense, where he signed as a free agent and won back-to-back Taça Guanabara and Campeonato Carioca titles before lifting the Copa Libertadores in 2023. That triumph came with a complication: months earlier he had tested positive for Ostarine after a match against River Plate and was handed an eight-month suspension, which meant he missed the Libertadores final itself. He is nonetheless recognised as a champion from that campaign, and the following year added a Recopa Sudamericana to his record at the club.
His individual recognition dates back to his Athletico Paranaense days, when he was named to the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A Team of the Year. His time at Fluminense ended amid a labour dispute over unpaid wages and injury compensation, and he subsequently filed suit against the club before signing with América Mineiro as a free agent.
