Before it was a football club, it was a way for men who worked the Córdoba y Rosario Railway to spend their Sundays, and for a decade the name said so plainly: The Córdoba and Rosario Railway Athletic Club, one of the founding members of the Liga Rosarina de Fútbol in 1905. The formal registration, at a building on Bulevar Rosarino, came on 20 October 1906. A year later the club settled on the ground at Viracoro and Juan Manuel de Rosas, and it has not moved since.
Central Córdoba's one season of any real height came in 1958, in the Primera División, and it ended in relegation after an eighteenth-place finish; a second campaign the following year went the same way on goal average.
The ground carries the name of the man most identified with the club.
