Centro Español

Jonathan Herrera left Villa Sarmiento for San Lorenzo, then Independiente, but he started at Centro Español, playing for the club across 2012 and 2013 before either of those transfers came along. Founded in 1934 by a Spanish community in the district, the club still carries the nickname El Gallego and still wears blue and white. Its founders had another cause before football took over as the club's identity: through the Spanish Civil War, from 1936 to 1939, they raised funds for the Republican side.

Between 2006 and 2014 the club ran under outside management, a stretch it came through without a merger or a change of name — its full name, Centro Social y Recreativo Español, has stayed the same since 1934. Home matches are played at Estadio Carlos Sacaan, also known as the Estadio de Ituzaingó, a ground owned not by Centro Español but by Club Atlético Ituzaingó, at the corner of General Ángel Pacheco and Mariano Acosta.

The club's best modern run came in the Cup format rather than the league: in the 2023 Copa Argentina, Centro Español knocked out Tigre, a Primera División side, in the round of 32, winning 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw, before Defensa y Justicia ended the run in the round of 16. The league title had come the previous year, when Centro Español won the 2022 Primera D Apertura with 19 points, only to lose the overall championship final to Yupanqui 1-0 after extra time. The following year brought the trophy Yupanqui had denied them: Primera D, Torneo 2, in 2023.
