Dinamo-Sinara Volgograd Women

Levon Akopyan took charge of the team in 1972, the year it was formed. By then the club had already changed its name five times, from Burevestnik through Урожай, Meliorator and Rotor to Aqua, before settling in 2005 on Dinamo-Sinara.

Those twelve championships make it the most successful side in the history of Russian women's handball. Viktor Ryabykh took the bench in 2008 and won the European Handball Federation Cup in his first season, then added six more league titles before leaving in 2017. The Cup of Cities and the European Super Cup, both from 1995, sit further back in the record, and the Russian Cup has never been won outright, a second place in 2008/09 and a third in 2023/24 marking the closest the club has come.

Games against Rostov-Don and Astrakhan's Astrakhanochka carry more weight than the rest of the calendar.

The team now plays out of the Dinamo Arena, 1,500 seats in Volgograd, in the white and blue that gave it its nickname, White-and-blues. Among those who wore it, Polina Vyakhireva is the name still mentioned first.
