Handball arrived in Velika Gorica in 1955. Josip Vuksan, Željko Stepanić and Aleksandar Božić put it back together in 1977, and it kept the Radnik name until Croatian independence, when in 1992 the club took up the identity it still carries, HRK Gorica.

The results have stayed modest by design of circumstance rather than ambition: a fourth-place finish is the best the club has managed in the Premijer liga, and its one run to a Croatian Cup final ended in a 31:25 defeat to RK Zagreb. European football has visited all the same, with appearances in the EHF European League, the EHF Cup and the Men's Challenge Cup.

Games are played at Dvorana Srednjih Škola, a hall that holds 1,000. The academy runs six age categories, and the club and its supporters go by the same name, Goricanin.

What HRK Gorica has never done, in seven decades of trying, is win anything.
