Sesvete forced its way into the conversation in the spring of 2024: MRK Sesvete reached its first Croatian Cup final, only to run into that same neighbour and go down 27:19.

The men's side was formed on 5 February 2000. Promotion to the Premijer liga came in 2017, finishing third in both 2022/23 and 2023/24. European handball reached Sesvete for the first time in the 2021/22 EHF European League.

Igor Vori has coached the team since 2023. He won an Olympic title and a world championship as a player for Croatia, and the cup final arrived under him.
