About the player
Buhari was 18 when Plateau United sent him out for his professional debut in November 2019, a 3–1 win over Lobi Stars. He had come to the club from the youth ranks at Karamone FC. The 2020–21 campaign was his most productive: six goals in 38 matches from centre-back, with Plateau United finishing as runners-up in the Nigeria Professional Football League. Across his time there he made 82 league appearances and scored nine goals.
In May 2022 the Nigeria national team called him up for friendlies against Mexico and Ecuador. He did not get on the pitch in either, and he has yet to win a senior cap. His one outing in national colours came at U23 level, a single appearance in March 2023 during qualifying for the 2024 Olympic Games.
The move to Europe came in September 2022, when IF Elfsborg signed him on a free transfer on a deal running to the end of 2026.
He left Borås in July 2026, again on a free transfer, for FK Austria Wien , where he signed until 30 June 2029.
