Thirty-one league titles separate Benfica from every other Portuguese basketball club, and none came harder than the run built between 2010–11 and 2015–16, when the Eagles took ten straight domestic trophies. The 1994–95 season sits above the rest: a clean sweep of the league, the Taça de Portugal and the Taça da Liga, capped by a 102–80 win over CSKA Moscow in the European Champions' Cup. Three years earlier, in 2008–09, they had won the league without losing a single regular-season match.

The basketball section split off from the football club on 20 March 1927, twenty-three years after Sport Lisboa e Benfica itself was formed, and it carries the same red shirts and the same eagle. Home games are played at the Pavilhão Fidelidade, in front of just under 2,500 people — a small room for a club with this record.

Carlos Lisboa spent twelve years there from 1984, long enough to have his number 7 retired, while Jean-Jacques Conceição, an Angolan-Portuguese guard who arrived the same year Lisboa did, went on to the Hall of Fame. Neemias Queta passed through more briefly, a single season in 2017–18 before becoming the first Portuguese player picked in the NBA draft and, in 2024, an NBA champion.

What the collection of league and cup titles has not produced is a European trophy. Benfica reached the BCL regular season for the first time as a Portuguese club in 2022–23, but the Basketball Champions League, the FIBA Europe Cup and the EuroCup have all gone to others.
