Deportivo Santaní play in the Division Intermedia, Paraguay's second tier, and the club's reputation rests less on the league table than on what it has done in cup football. In the 2023 Paraguayan Cup they knocked out 2 de Mayo away, winning 1-0, then went through on penalties to reach the quarter-finals — where Libertad beat them 3-0. Few second-division sides get that far.

The larger date is 2019. Santaní became the first club from the Paraguayan interior to qualify for the Copa Sudamericana, and in that competition beat Once Caldas of Colombia 2-0. It explains one of the nicknames the club carries locally, El Más Grande del Interior, alongside Albinegra and the shorter Depor.

San Estanislao sits 150 km north of Asunción, and the town is generally known as Santaní — which is where the club took its name. That distance matters more than it sounds: Paraguayan top-flight football has long been concentrated in the capital, and a club from this far out reaching continental competition was a first rather than a repeat.

Home matches are at the Estadio Juan José Vázquez, which holds 4,928. The colours are white and black, hence albinegros.

The club was founded on 27 February 2009, and has won no national football title. It has, however, come close in another code: in 2025 the futsal side reached the final of the Honor category of FIFA futsal in Paraguay and lost to Coronel Escurra.

The man the club is named for is Juan José Vázquez, whose name the ground carries — the one figure a visitor to Santaní will see printed before anything else, above a stand that holds fewer people than most Paraguayan first-division crowds.
