Jonquiere Marquis

Before there was a club in Jonquière, there was a franchise looking for a place to belong. It began life in 2008 as Saguenay 98.3, took the name Saguenay Marquis a year later, and only in 2012 crossed into the Jonquière borough of the city to become the Jonquière Marquis, part of a lineage that runs back through the Saint-Jean Summum Chiefs and the Laval Chiefs to the Saint-Lin-Laurentides Gladiateurs of 1996. Wherever it played, it kept winning the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey's championship under whatever name the cup happened to carry that year.

As the Laval Chiefs it took the title in 2001-02 and again the following season; as the Saint-Jean Summum Chiefs, once more in 2006-07. Once settled in Jonquière, the run continued: the Coupe Canam in 2012-13 and 2013-14, back to back under head coach and general manager Dean Lygitsakos, who made the Marquis only the second team in league history to defend the championship successfully. A third title in Jonquière colours, the Coupe Verdure, followed in 2016-17.

The team plays out of the Palais des Sports, a 1,500-seat rink, in green, black and white. Bob Desjardins now holds an unusually concentrated role at the club, serving as head coach, general manager and owner at once. Among the players who passed through under the franchise's various names, Sean McMorrow stands out for having worn the jersey through both the Saguenay and Jonquière eras.

The rivalry that matters most locally is with Rivière-du-Loup 3L and with Saint-Georges Cool FM 103.5, games sharpened by geography as much as by standings.
