About

The Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey (LNAH) operates as a low-level professional ice hockey league based in Quebec, Canada. Founded in 1996 under the name Quebec Semi-Pro Hockey League, the competition transitioned to full professional status and adopted its current title in 2004. It occupies the "A" tier within the North American minor professional hockey pyramid, positioned below the American Hockey League and the ECHL.

The structure of the season involves a regular schedule of approximately 36 games followed by a playoff tournament. The champion is awarded the Coupe Gilles-Rousseau, a trophy that has carried various sponsored names throughout its history, including the Coupe Futura and the Coupe Canam. The league maintains a closed system with no promotion or relegation, meaning membership remains static from season to season. Currently, the competition features six clubs: Assurancia de Thetford, Bataillon St-Hyacinthe, Jonquiere Marquis, National Quebec, Petroliers du Nord, and Riviere-du-Loup 3L.

Distinctive roster rules define the character of the league. Teams are permitted to stockpile experienced former players from higher levels without the strict veteran limits found in other tiers, supported by a salary cap that averages between $6,300 and $6,800 per game. Participants must typically originate from Quebec or have played junior hockey within the province. This approach has fostered a physical style of play known for a high frequency of fights. Thetford Assurancia holds the record for the most championships with four titles. Following a suspension of operations after the 2020-21 season due to the pandemic, the league has engaged in intermittent activity and rebranding efforts during the 2024-2025 period.
