Sorel-Tracy

Ice hockey in Sorel-Tracy did not begin with a team that carried the town's name. The franchise started in 1996 as the Saint-Gabriel Blizzard, in the Quebec Semi-Pro Hockey League, then spent the next decade drifting: Joliette in 1998, Joliette Mission in 2000, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu in 2002, and only in 2004 did it settle in Sorel-Tracy, playing as the Sorel-Tracy Mission. Two years without a team followed after 2008, before the club returned in 2010 under yet another name, Sorel-Tracy GCI, then HC Carvena. It took until 2013 to arrive at Éperviers — Hawks — a name borrowed from the city's old Quebec Major Junior Hockey League team.

The Éperviers play out of the Colisée Cardin, in black, red and white, in the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey. Patrick Bordeleau and Éric Meloche both passed through the club on their way to the NHL, to the Colorado Avalanche and to the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers respectively. Captain Julien Anctil now leads a roster whose fiercest rival is Jonquière: the Marquis met Sorel-Tracy in the league final in both 2018 and 2019, but did not win either.

Those two titles, and a third won in 2025 after a final against Saint-Georges that ran to six overtimes, belong to the Éperviers name itself.
