Ricardo Velazco became the first player to go the full route from the RSL academy through the Monarchs and into the MLS first team, signing in September 2016. Others followed the same staircase — Justen Glad and Sebastian Saucedo among them — and by 2018 RSL was already counting seven graduates who had made that jump. Julio Benitez signed as the organisation's 29th Homegrown Player in January 2022 after coming through the same system.

It won the USL Championship's regular-season Shield in 2017 and reached the Western Conference final that year, then went back and won the conference in 2019 before beating Louisville City FC 3-1 in the USL Cup final — the first trophy Real Salt Lake's organisation had lifted since 2009.
