Jordan Hines came up through the Houston Dynamo academy and kept his first minutes as a professional in an unglamorous place: goal for the reserve side, not the first team. He moved on eventually, first into the senior Dynamo squad and later to the Philadelphia Union.

The club exists for exactly that kind of departure. Founded in 2021 and entered into MLS Next Pro the following year as one of the league's original members, it carries no ambition of its own beyond preparing players for someone else's first team — the one that shares its stadium, its colours, and half its name. There are no trophies in its short history, and none are really the point.

Midfielder Alex Rincon got his senior call-up in 2022 straight out of this setup. Goalkeeper Kyle Baker signed with the parent club that same year after time in the reserves. Midfielder Jessy Flores made the same jump. The names change year to year; the pipeline is the constant.

Home games are played at SaberCats Stadium, part of Houston Sports Park, where the ground holds 4,000 and just over 3,000 of those are seated rather than standing. It is a small enough venue that a teenager's first professional goal there can still feel like something worth remembering, even if few outside the academy system are watching.

The shirt is Wildcatter orange, Raven black, Space City blue and white — the parent club's palette, worn by a team whose job is to keep sending its best players out of it.
