The Moravian-Silesian derby against Pepino SKP Frýdek-Místek gives Kopřivnice's season its edge, a fixture between two clubs in the same corner of the country.

That history has a peak worth naming. Founded in May 1959, the club won the Czech Extraliga title and added the Czech Cup in the 1992/93 season. The double carried Kopřivnice into Europe: a run in the Cup Winners' Cup in 1993/94, followed by the EHF Cup a year later. The club finished as runners-up in 1993/94 and won a bronze medal in 1994/95, then dropped out of the Extraliga in 2014 before returning to the top flight.

Jiří Kekrt, who managed the club, later worked as assistant coach for the Czech national side.

Locally the team is known simply as the Kopřivnice handball players, playing in blue and white without a mascot or borrowed nickname attached to the name.
