Albion and Danubio played out a 2:2 draw in the seventh match of the Torneo Intermedio stage of the Primera Apertura on Friday. The result leaves Albion ninth on 34 points and Danubio fifteenth on 24 after 27 games each. And here's the thing — neither side looked likely to walk away with all three points from the start.
Albion took the lead through J. Trasante in the twelfth minute, then Danubio responded quickly with M. Peralta's goal sixteen minutes in. H. Silveira thought he had put Albion ahead on twenty-seven minutes, but the referee cancelled the goal for offside. The first half ended with the score level and Albion already carrying 65 percent of possession.
The second half opened with T. Figueroa restoring Albion's advantage on the hour mark, but J. Alvarez equalised just eight minutes later. Danubio had the chance to push through, but Albion's defence held firm despite four yellow cards on the away side. To be fair, Albion paid for a sloppy opening and had to work hard to salvage something from the afternoon.
Albion dominated the numbers with 101 attacks to Danubio's 68 and 10 corners against four. The possession split at 65 to 35 in Albion's favour, yet neither side found the target with any regularity. By then you could see the match shaping up as a tactical stalemate rather than a contest of clear chances.
The draw keeps Albion three points clear of Danubio in the table, though the gap matters little with ten games remaining. Albion's recent form included a loss to Juventud and a draw with Maldonado, while Danubio's last outing was a goalless draw against Nacional. The result means both sides stay where they are.
