Riga beat Ogre United 4-1 in the Virsliga's 26th round on Saturday, 9 August, at their home ground. The Latvian side moved up in the table while the visitors' struggles deepened, with the final whistle marking another difficult chapter for the bottom-half outfit.
Caio Ferreira opened the scoring in the second minute, and by then Riga were already dictating the tempo. M. Badamosi added a second in the 16th, followed by M. Marusii's strike in the 26th. Ogre United pulled one back through S. Oulad M'Hand just before half-time, but Abner ended a barren spell for his side with a goal in the 45th minute.
By then the match had turned on its head, and Ogre United found themselves chasing the game with little to show for it. R. Aouani received a red card in the 72nd minute, a moment that ended any hope of a comeback. K. Cudars had a goal cancelled for offside in the same minute, and the visitors were left flat-footed for the remainder.
Riga dominated possession at 64 per cent and registered 122 attacks compared to Ogre United's 85. The hosts took 11 shots on target, seven of which found the way, while the visitors managed seven attempts on target with four on target. Riga created three big chances, Ogre United only one.
The result leaves Riga in second place with 66 points from 28 games, while Ogre United remain in 10th with just 14 points. The home side's recent form has been strong, with victories over Grobinya and Diori Eto, and a win over Varadar Skopje in European competition. Ogre United's run includes heavy defeats against Daugavpils and Liepaya, and they are running out of games to change their fortunes.
