Tranmere Rovers and Rotherham United played out a 2:2 draw in League Two on Tuesday evening. The result keeps both sides in the lower half of the table, though Tranmere's unbeaten run extends to four matches while Rotherham's single defeat remains their only loss this season.
Z. Okoro opened the scoring at the 16th minute, and Tranmere held that advantage for most of the first half. E. Otoo picked up a yellow card in the 34th minute, one of several cautions that accumulated as the match developed. By then the game had settled into a rhythm neither side could quite control.
Substitutions began at the 62nd minute, with Tranmere bringing on D. Jones and S. Finley while Rotherham introduced P. Mullin and K. Spence. The visitors had more possession at 56 per cent but struggled to convert it, managing just three shots on target compared to Tranmere's four.
A. Nemane pulled Tranmere level in the 84th minute, and T. Ince took the lead for Rotherham three minutes later. B. Faulkner received a red card in stoppage time at 90+4, and T. Bradshaw converted a penalty at 90+6 to salvage a point. The incident went to review, but the spot-kick was awarded.
Tranmere's statistics tell a story of efficiency over dominance. They registered 121 attacks with 44 per cent possession and converted four shots on target into two goals. Rotherham had 111 attacks and 56 per cent possession but managed only three shots on target, with two finding the net. The away end never stopped, but the shots accuracy figure of 21 per cent suggests chances went begging.
The result leaves Tranmere tenth with six points from four games — one win and three draws. Rotherham sit thirteenth with five points, their form showing a win, two draws and one defeat. Neither side has anything to celebrate, but neither has lost momentum either.
