AC Horsens

Horsens sits on the east coast of Jutland, a port and industrial town, and for most of the 20th century its game belonged to Horsens fS, founded in 1915. That club took bronze in the 1967 Danish championship and played the Intertoto Cup in 1968 and 1970. By 1994 it could not carry a professional side alone, so it merged its ambitions with Stensballe IK and FC Horsens into a single umbrella: AC Horsens.

The new club went down in its first season and spent two years in the third tier before climbing back in 1997. Promotion to the Superliga came in 2004–05, second place doing the job, and Horsens have been going up and down ever since — relegated in 2008–09 and back at once in 2009–10, down again in 2020–21 and back in 2021–22, down in 2022–23, up once more in 2025–26.

The one season that stands apart is 2011–12. Horsens reached the Danish Cup final and lost 1–0 to FC København, but the beaten finalists took the European place. In the Europa League qualifiers they saw off Elfsborg 4–3 on aggregate, then Sporting CP took them apart 6–1.

Martin Retov played in midfield from 2010 to 2015, through the cup run and the European nights, and later returned to the club as a coach. Of the academy products, Mads Bech made his debut at 16 and now plays for Brentford.

The ground on Langmarksvej has worn four names in eighteen years — Horsens Idrætspark until 2008, then CASA Arena, then Nordstern Arena Horsens, and Hybel Arena Horsens since 1 January 2026. Locally it is still the Forum Horsens Stadium, and the yellow shirts that give the club its nickname, Den Gule Fare, have outlasted every sponsor on the roof.

Capacity is 10,400, of which 7,500 are seated — in a town where the derby fixtures against Vejle and AGF are the ones that fill it.
