Burgos

Burgos is a Castilian city more often associated with its Gothic cathedral than with an oval ball. Rugby here began in 1970 among students at the Escuela Universitaria de Arquitectura Técnica.

The club was constituted formally on 16 October 1987. It took its present form in 2006, when it merged with Ferroplás Burgos Rugby Club, a side founded in 1983. The first honours came in the second tier: the División de Honor B in 2016–17 and again in 2017–18.

The top flight brought a different kind of story, one of finals. Burgos lost the Copa del Rey final in 2021 and again in 2023, and finished second in the División de Honor in 2022–23 and 2023–24. The Copa del Rey came in 2024, alongside the Supercopa de España, which they won that year and the year before. In 2025–26 they were runners-up in the league once more.

Their nearest rival is Club de Rugby El Salvador of Valladolid. Games between them are called the derbi regional, or the derbi de Castilla y León.

Johan Wagenaar is one of the players the club points to. He retired after ten years in the yellow and black stripes. The club also has the largest number of players in the Spanish national squad preparing for the 2027 Rugby World Cup. Many of them train at the Campo de Rugby Bienvenido Nieto in the San Amaro sports complex, on a ground built for 1,500 seated spectators.
