«Swedish Manchester»
A youth magazine called Kamraten put out a call for young men to organise, and a group of students at the local gymnasium answered it, forming a club on 29 May 1897. Football itself did not begin there straight away.
The club found its identity from the 1940s to the early 1960s, an era still spoken of at Idrottsparken as the Golden Köping. The championships kept coming after him, six more under Kalle Adamek and Georg Ericson through to 1963, and it was this run that earned the club its nickname.
A relegation, in 1982, broke the spell, though Norrköping was back up within a year.
The ground has not moved in all that time. The magazine that started it all is long gone, but the meeting it prompted in 1897 is still where the club dates itself from.
