Lusitânia Lourosa

Promotion came in May 2025, when Lourosa finished top of Liga 3. The reward arrived with a bill attached: the ground had held around 8000, most of them standing, and league rules meant seats. The rebuild left 4900 , all seated.

It won the III Divisão in 1972/73 and has taken the Aveiro district title six times, the last of those in 2018. In the Taça de Portugal that year the side knocked out Belenenses and Beira-Mar, both top-flight, along with Académica and Chaves, and reached a semi-final. Sporting ended it 6-0.

The other thing worth knowing about Lourosa is who lives down the road. Feirense, from Santa Maria da Feira, have been the opposition in this fixture since the 1930s: 52 official meetings, 23 wins to Lourosa, 22 to Feirense, seven draws. Then the divisions pulled them apart. From 1988 the two did not meet in a competitive match at all — a gap of nearly four decades that only closed in 2024, in a play-off for a place in Liga Portugal 2.

Referee Rosa Santos once called the stretch of country taking in Santa Maria da Feira, Ovar and Oliveira de Azeméis the Bermuda Triangle of Portuguese football, for the number of local grudges packed into it. Lourosa supply two more of them, against Oliveirense and Ovarense.

What the club has never had is a national trophy.
