Maitland

In August 2019, Maitland put three goals past Newcastle Jets Youth in the match that settled the NPL Northern NSW premiership, then lost the grand final to Edgeworth.

The club took shape in 1961, formed by people in the Hunter Valley who wanted a football side to call their own, and it has kept the name Maitland FC since. Promotion into the top flight of Northern NSW football came a decade later, in 1971, and the first major honour followed in 1980, a 5-1 win over Highfields Azzurri in the Division One final. Relegation arrived in 2002, and the way back took until 2009, then again in 2014, when a 3-1 extra-time win over Valentine FC secured the Division 1 title and a return to the NPL from 2015.

The Magpies play out of Cooks Square Park in East Maitland, a ground that holds 350 seated, in black and white. In 2021 the club added a women's program, and that side has done its own share of winning: the Women's State Cup in 2021 against Newcastle Olympic, then again in 2023 with a 2-0 win over Charlestown Azzurri, both under coach Keelan Hamilton.

Few at the club left a mark like Bronte Peel, who was named NNSW NPLW Player of the Year and scored 41 goals in a season for the women's team before departing at the end of the 2025 campaign.
