Patardzeuli is a village in the Sagarejo Municipality of Kakheti, and until 2001 the region had no club in Georgian rugby's top structure at all. Malkhaz Urjukashvili, a former Georgian international regarded as one of the finest the country produced, set out to change that, founding Vepkhvebi that year to give Kakheti a side of its own.

The academy he built, staffed by coaches brought in from Tbilisi, did more than feed the first team: age-group sides took two international youth tournaments in Auxerre in 2007.

Vepkhvebi play in orange and black at Vazisubani, though the ground's limitations have sent them to Telavi's Caucasus Arena for some fixtures. In 2018 the club won the Georgian First League and reached Didi 10, the first side from Kakheti to play in the country's top flight; an eighth-place finish followed in their debut season.
