The wider club, an omni-sports body founded on 1 September 1949, houses several disciplines.
The championship of 1987 was followed by another in 1990, and between those two seasons the team also lost a national cup final in 1988. V&L reached the Dutch Handball Cup final seven times between 1986 and 2008 without once lifting it.
Blue and white have stayed the club's colours through all of it, and the nickname V&L has outlasted the men's section's own run of five league titles and three cups in the 1980s and early 2000s, kept separate in the record books from what the women achieved.
