Púchov

The factory in Púchov gave the town's amateur club its name and a workforce of players in 1946, when TJ Makyta took the ice for the first time, the works team of the local textile plant that still shapes how older supporters refer to the club. That link between factory and rink outlasted the communist sporting structures that created it, and the club spent decades circling the second tier of Slovak hockey, winning the 2. Liga in 1980, 1981, 1983, 1987, 1993 and 1994, then again in 2007, 2008 and 2009 without ever forcing its way higher for long. Relegation from the 1. hokejová liga at the end of the 2011/12 season tipped the club into something more serious: it disappeared from official competition entirely for two seasons before being reconstituted in 2014 as ŠHK Púchov, starting again well below where TJ Makyta had once competed.

Since then the rebuilding has shown in the fourth tier rather than the second: the 3. Liga title in 2010–11, before the collapse, and again in 2023–24, each bringing promotion. František Zúbek and Tomáš Bajtala have carried the scoring load through these lower-league years, while Lukáš Zemko stands as the club's all-time points leader in Slovakia's third division, a record built on staying rather than moving on. Games against HK Dubnica, the club from the neighbouring town along the Váh valley, are billed locally as the Považie derby and carry weight regardless of what division either side happens to occupy.

The Zimný štadión Púchov, holding 3,500, lost its roof to snow in 2002 and was rebuilt the following year, a reminder that the ground has needed the town's attention as often as the team on it. White, blue and yellow have stayed the club's colours through the factory era and the years without a team at all.
