Mizunodeild (Iceland) 2026/27

The Mizunodeild stands as the premier men's volleyball competition in Iceland, operating under the official designation of Úrvalsdeild karla. Founded in 1969, the league occupies the highest position within the national volleyball structure. The Icelandic Volleyball Association (Blaksamband Íslands, BLÍ) manages the tournament, which typically involves eight clubs.

The competitive calendar follows a structured progression. Teams engage in a triple round-robin format during the regular phase, ensuring every side faces each opponent three times. This schedule results in 21 matches per team before the conclusion of the regular season. The subsequent knockout stage features the top four teams, who compete in best-of-three semi-finals. A best-of-five series determines the ultimate champion.

KA Akureyri claims the most recent title, securing victory in the 2024–2025 campaign. The club has also won the championship in 2022–2023. Historically, KSF Þróttur holds the record for the most titles with 14 victories. ÍF Stúdenta and HK follow as secondary forces, each having won the league ten times. UMF Stjarnan has added five titles to their collection.

While the league is primarily known as the Mizunodeild, it has occasionally operated under the name Unbrokendeild due to sponsorship arrangements. The sport in Iceland also includes a women's top division, Mizunodeild kvenna, which began in the 1973/1974 season. The men's league maintains a distinct identity through its specific playoff structure and the concentration of successful clubs in Reykjavík and Akureyri.
